Environmental Day
Environment Day is commemorated worldwide each year under the direction of the United Nations to heighten public awareness about the environment. In recent times, the need to promote more ecofriendly practices in order to maintain the health of our planet has come to the forefront, as world nations struggle to reverse the present trend of climatic changes. The World Environment Day is a reminder to show our gratefulness to Mother Nature, which sustains all forms of life. This is the day to focus our thoughts and our energies to make collective efforts towards protecting the environment. India has rich traditional knowledge and wisdom in the conservation of nature and natural resources. Religious beliefs, culture and folklore have together treated nature and environment with sanctity. Conservation and protection of environment and love for nature have always been part and parcel of Indian ethos and culture. So it’s better to consume water and food and all other natural resources with much care. The Environment Day celebration was started in Believers Church Holy Angels Public School at 9.30 am. Our Principal Mrs. Jomol Rojan inaugurated the function by planting saplings in the school campus. All the teachers and representatives from PTA were present at this auspicious moment. As a part of teacher’s day, assembly was conducted by the teachers. It was followed by Guruvandanam. Students took over the role of teachers and managed the classes. They conducted games and entertainment programs for the teachers. Students also presented gifts to their teachers as a token of appreciation and gratitude towards them. The Inaugural ceremony of cultural fest started at 9.30 am. Principal Mrs. Jomol Rojan presided over the function. Arts club secretary Miss. Sonnet Rajesh delivered the welcome speech. Honorable chief guest Mrs. Shoshamma Mathai inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp. Staff representative Mrs. V. Bindhu informed them about the fest’s rules and asked for the whole hearted cooperation of students and teachers to make the function successful. Arts club joint secretary Master Basil Eldhose delivered vote of thanks. After the inauguration various competitions were conducted in different stages. On 7th we started our second day cultural fest with common assembly. Soon after the assembly, the fest was started with the fancy dress competition. All students participated in the program and parents were also present as the audience to cheer their kids. Group dance and Mono act were the highlights of the day. Onam is one of the most significant festivals of Kerala and is an attraction for the thousands of people outside and within the State. All the activities during this season are centered on worship, music, dance, sports, boat races and traditional onam sadhya. This festival is celebrated in the Malayalam month Chingam (ending of August and beginning of September). Onam is a harvest festival and celebrates the reward of nature after a year of hard work. The merry-making of the festival includes an elaborate procession of Trichur and the amusing boat races on River Pampa. Women dress up in traditional wears and make detailed designs of “rangolis” and “pookkalam”(with flowers) in front of their homes. We started our Onam celebration at 9.30 am with greater joy. Onam festivities included various competitions like Thiruvathira, Onapattu and enactment of King Mahabali. Students and teachers equally enjoyed the Onam sadhya together. Independence Day celebration started at 7.30 am in our school. Our PTA president Mr. Paul C. Varghese hoisted the national flag. The Independence Day message was delivered by Mrs. Sherly Peter. The synopsis of the speech is given below: “Today we have gathered here to celebrate our 67th Independence Day. As we all know, on 15th August 1947 India got Independence by getting rid of the British rulers. Since then, we got some fundamental rights and the right to call India as our own Nation, our own Motherland. We all are fortunate to born in this Independent India. But, the history reveals how our ancestors and forefathers suffered in the brutal rule of British. Getting independence from the British rulers was not a cakewalk. It took several decades of struggle, right from 1857 when Mangal Pandey, a soldier in British force first raised the voice against British ruling. Since then, several freedom fighters struggled and even gave their life for freedom. How can one forget Bhagat Singh, Chandra Sekhar Azad and Khudi Ram Bose who sacrificed their life in a very tender age just for the sake of freedom? How can the struggle of Netaji and Gandhiji be ignored? Gandhiji, who was the key person, taught us how we can win a big battle through non-violence. Finally, we got the results of our struggles on 15th August 1947 when India got independence. Since then we proudly celebrate this day. In 67 years of Independence, we have exponentially progressed in every field right from education, technology, sports, finance and all other fields which were not possible before Independence. India is now one among the few Countries, who are rich in nuclear power. We have been number one in the World in sports like hockey and cricket. We have won gold medal in Olympics, have been successful in Commonwealth games and Asian games. In technical fields also, we are ahead of many other countries and all these developments happened just because of the freedom we received as an independence India. We, the Indians are proud to be a citizen of a free Country having the largest democracy in the World. We have got several rights and most of all is the right to choose the Government. But on the other side, we should also remember our duties too. We have to respect this independence for which our forefathers struggled to the extent of sacrificing everything including their lives. There are still some grey areas which we have to get rid of. There are few people using this Independence for their selfishness at the cost of the pride of our Country. Children are the future of our Country; we have to carry what we have been given in a better way. We have to grow up as responsible citizens, contribute our best for growth and development of our motherland India.
